A friend of my father. He claims to be 90 years old (Dad is completely convinced, but Mom has her doubts) but who can tell without a birth certificate, right? The reason we're a bit dubious is because this man moves about like he's 45... and sometimes younger. The man goes trekking through the forest all the time (I've been with him) and we've seen him sprint up stairs that even my mother would take her time on. It's really quite a sight.
Now that's quite alright with me. But Dad calls this man his 'guru' and it's supposed to be a joke but sometimes we're not all that sure. Mr. Mahraj is always going on about meditation and the subconscious mind and the kind of suff you'd know about if you've seen The Secret, except it's more like The Secret Extreme.
But Dad's inviting Mr. Mahraj to teach us Hindi. Now don't get me wrong, it's good to learn about your heritage and all that but honestly, I couldn't care less about learning Hindi at this point in my life. It's a useful language in the business community, which I don't intend to become part of, and as a Trinidadian/ Citizen of The UK I don't see how Hindi becomes useful to me in the near future.
Another peeve of mine with this whole thing is that Dad seems so intrigued by Mr. Mahraj's youthfulness (obviously not from his looks as shown above but you know...) and it's a bit annoying, frankly, when Dad goes on about these different ways to stay fit and healthy. My point is, when you get old, you get old. Simple as that. Do enough in your young life so that you feel content when you're older. Of course that doesn't mean you have to completely neglect yourself but I'd rather get old than do extreme yoga and nasal drinking (yes... I said nasal drinking) every morning and kneeling down after meals because it's 'the right way to digest food'.
I guess that the whole point of this post was to say - "Get over it Dad!!"
;)
